Alberta Land Surveyor

Martin Geomatic Consultants (MGCL) is a land surveying and civil consulting engineering firm located in Lethbridge. For over 50 years we have been providing services to the public, government, and land developers across Canada and more particularly, Southern Alberta. In addition to legal and construction surveys, MGCL specializes in precise engineering and geodetic surveying.

 

We currently have two land surveyors with their ALS and CLS commissions, who provide management, technical knowledge, and direction to our survey group. MGCL is looking for an Alberta Land Surveyor to join our firm with a view to assist in the leadership of our survey team.

Responsibilities:

Develop strong client relationships and help market professional services

Manage projects to ensure that deliverables, schedules, and budgets are met

Ensure that the standards of the industry and the ALSA are met or exceeded

Mentor and train staff

Develop and foster a cohesive and positive work atmosphere for all staff members

Qualifications:

The successful candidate shall be commissioned as an Alberta Land Surveyor and must have a university degree in an accredited geomatics program together with a minimum of 3 years of progressive professional experience. Consideration may also be given to experienced, commissioned land surveyors from other jurisdictions willing to obtain their ALS. In addition the candidate needs to have:

A commitment towards providing a high level of service to the public and strong adherence to quality workmanship

The ability to develop and promote opportunities for business development

Good social skills and proficiency in the English language

Excellent communication and organizational skills

Effective decision-making capabilities

A working knowledge of static GNSS post-processing laser scanners, UAVs, LiDAR, and Photogrammetry, along with that of related software would be a definite advantage.

A CLS designation would also be an asset for the successful candidate.

MUNICIPAL ENGINEER

OUR OPPORTUNITY

We are currently seeking a Municipal Engineer to join our team and utilize their knowledge and experience on municipal infrastructure projects, including water distribution, wastewater collection, and stormwater management, including planning, design, and construction, as well as general municipal engineering.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Lead the execution of projects by providing preliminary and detailed design services in water distribution, reservoirs, sanitary and storm sewers, site layout, site grading and drainage, culverts, urban roadways, and parking lots.

Participate in studies, assessments, modelling, preliminary and detailed design, cost estimates, specifications, contract documents, tendering, and contract administration.

Prepare and/or support the project team in preparing area structure plans, outline plans, and stormwater management reports.

Coordinate the delivery of quality design drawings by providing direction and mark-ups to drafting and design technologists.

Provide analysis and reporting of urban drainage systems and water distribution systems using modeling software such as WaterCAD and PCSWMM.

Project management would include coordination of project requirements with clients, sub-consultants, regulatory agencies, utility agencies, and contractors.

Develop strong client relationships and help to market professional services.

Manage projects to ensure deliverables, schedules, and budgets are met.

Prepare proposals and reports.

Mentor and train the staff.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate shall hold a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and must be registered (or eligible to register) as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in the province of Alberta.

 

In addition, must have:

4+ years of experience in municipal engineering and project management.

Experience with municipal engineering projects, including designing and constructing water, sanitary, and stormwater systems.

Use of PCSWMM and/or WaterCad as a preferred asset.

Experience in the application of Municipal design standards.

Experience in working with regulatory agencies on requirements for permitting and approvals.

A thorough knowledge of the preparation of tender documents and contract administration.

Experience writing ASP & Outline plans is an asset.

Understand the importance of meeting timelines and budgets.

Strong technical writing ability.

Ability to travel for work.

Demonstrated ability to develop and promote opportunities for business development.

Good social skills and proficiency in the English language is required.

Excellent communication and organizational skills.
